Whats the best way of going about starting a new business?

I am an alarm technician now and I am planning on going out and doing my own thing, service, installations, whatever. I already have business starting to come in now and before I get to behind on the "paperwork", what all needs to be done and finished before I hire anybody. Where would be a good source to get info from also. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Since you have experience in the field what you need is a quick way to pick up some "book knowledge" of how to operate a business.

The first thing you should do is visit the library and take a look at the books in the business section. Although most of them will be aimed at white collar workers in the corporate world you should be able to find a few intended to people who are starting their own businesses. Check them all out and skim them.

Don’t get hung up on the details. Just skim them to get a feeling for what you should know and look for things like checklists that seem useful.

If you like a book look up the reader reviews on amazon.com and see what other people who are in business for themselves have to say. While looking at the reviews be on the lookout for cases where two or more reviewers recommend another book in addition to or instead of the the book being reviewed.

The next thing to do is sit down and come up with a written business plan. It doesn’t have to be fancy since it is intended for your personal use. Preparing the plan will force you to think about your business from a financial point of view.

Once you have a plan call the nearest office of S.C.O.R.E. (the Service Corps Of Retired Executives) and ask for some help in the areas you aren’t comfortable with. (You can find the nearest office on the internet at www.score.org).

This should be enough to get you started.

Can you suggest an innovative idea for starting business on internet?

Hello, I am going to start my own business based on internet an I am seeking an inovative idea. I like to run an e-commerce site and I would be happy if you help me to find a new concept for basing the business on it. Thanks.

I think the most important thing to keep in mind is YOU…

Think of all your interests & ask yourself if any of those could be expanded into a business. Just keep in mind…what’s your expertise? What are your interests? What could you imagine yourself doing?

By researching the prospect of starting your own business — what it entails, what you need to know, helpful hints, etc — you’ll feel better prepared to take that plunge.

I found some book titles that are relevant to your specific question:

* 101 Internet Businesses You Can Start from Home by Susan Sweeney
* The Best Home Businesses for the 21st Century by Paul Edwards
* Selling Online: How to Become a Successful E-Commerce Merchant by Jim Carroll
* I Could Do Anything If I Only Knew What It Was: How to Discover What You Really Want and How to Get It by Barbara Sher
* I Don’t Know What I Want, But I Know It’s Not This: A Step-by-Step Guide to Finding Gratifying Work by Julie Jansen
* The Best Internet Businesses You Can Start by Marian Betancourt
* The Shoestring Entrepreneur’s Guide to Internet Start-Ups by Robert Spiegel
* Making a Living Without a Job : Winning Ways For Creating Work That You Love by Barbara Winter

I also posted some article links in the source box.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

You don’t need a degree to start a business. At your age, I would consider getting a degree a waste of time. Sure, you can go part time or nightly or even full time once you have your business set up- but until then, focus on the things that you need right now to make your business starting dreams come true.

Get your degree in computer science with a minor in marketing. After graduation get the best job you can find that gives you experience and save as much as you can to start a small part time business. After you establish your part time business and it is making enough to expand and support you you can quit your job and work for yourself full time.
