Hi,
I am starting a online business and I want to know what are the legal procedures to make it legal, I mean, when people go there to advertise whatever they want and pay a certain amount of money per month to advertise using PayPal to me, I need to make it legal.

And if that works with PayPal, that means I can also use Google Checkout and Yahoo! Wallet, isn’t?

What can I do to make my online business legal? What are the procedures?

I live in Alberta, Canada. Please help me with suggestions and tips. Thanks!

Ah, well, I dont know what the procedures in Canada are, but you have to at least register yourself as a sole proprietor in a small business, $45 fee, and a name search – usually you can get away with a preliminary search for $10, or you may need to do the full search for $40 or so. Here in the US you need at the very least a Federal TAX ID number from the IRS. You can back that up with a fictictious name purchase from the state, and be ready to go using any made up name for your business. If you want to buy things tax free for resale, then you need to have a state issued resale certificate and use that to open an actual company bank account.

My husband and I would really like to start an online business. We don’t want to sign up for someone else’s business and get into a scam. My husband is an IT Tech and anything dealing with computers he can do, including building webpages. Any ideas on what type of online business we could start? We don’t have alot of money to invest. Anyone started the own online business and made a decent extra income, or even better made their full income? Again nothing like online mystery shopper, survey taker, etc. We want to build our’s from scratch

two guy’s in my town just started a web site. It’s actually doing very well for them. It’s a yard sale web site. Where people from the town can take pictures and post things for sale ( yard sale prices) and other people in the town can go on the web site and purchase the item. THe guy’s who started the site just charge people $8.00 a month to post their items. It’s kind of like e-bay but they don’t take a percentage of what you make. I am very interested in starting a business online but need pointers on how to get started. Can anyone help? I’ve done several searches so please no copy & paste. I would like "real" advice from someone who knows.

First you have to figure out what type of product you want to sale. Did you want to partner up with a business that’s already well established or do you want to start one on your own. This will require a lot of work. You can create a web site (or pay someone to create it) had have your items on their set up like a Internet shopping mall. You can partner up with other stores and have links to their web sites and make a percentage off of saling their items. You can also get together with other business owners and sale their products from the site and take a commission out of it. So many different ways to make money in home based businesses, you just need to figure out which way works for you.
After you set that up, you need to network it so that you drive traffic to these sites. You can get together with survey companies and have your web site added on their sites for people to purchase online, and they take a percentage out of what you pay. This gets a little tricky when they pay you by cc, and you pay your distributers and you pay all the expenses. It’s a tough business to get involved in. Especially when theirs so many internet malls, sites etc.
I guess because your wanting to do Internet work, your wanting a business to start out of your home, or from a lap top. Theirs a lot of different businesses that you can take a look at that are much easier to do and run and start then this business that your trying to do. You will quickly find out, what a pain it’s going to be, and the income isn’t like you think. You’d be better off selling things off of Ebay or something like that. Making your own things or selling your old junk.

Well, I hope I’ve shed some light on Online businesses. If you can do the time that it takes to be successful, then I say do it. But if how difficult and the length of time required is an issue, then I suggest you look into other avenues.

What do you want from a online business?

After owning and operating multiple sites, i’ll give you what little knowledge I’ve gained. My opinion, ignore as needed.

1) Content is key to success. If you are selling something tangible, have a lot of it. I don’t know of any websites that made anything that were only selling a handful of items. You cut your market down too much if you don’t have a good amount of items for sale. If you aren’t selling tangible goods, it must be appealing. An online gaming website works well due to the repetitive usability of them. If you are not selling anything and your content isn’t appealing, you will not make money, simple as that.

2) Traffic. Make sure you are listed in the search engines and think about investing some money advertising on other sites. Don’t skimp on this because it only hurts you. If nobody knows your site is there, how are you going to make money?

3) It needs to be visually appealing. If I go into a website and see misspellings, broken images and links, cluttered pages, I don’t stay long. Overall asthetics are a very important part in my opinion. I could show you some examples of my sites to show you what I mean but yahoo will probably get on me for advertising. Just be sure your site looks good to visitors and they will come back for more. Best rule of thumb, "If I don’t like how it looks, odds are my visitors won’t either."

I could probably come up with more but those are the main keys to success from what I have learned. If you want to discuss further, give me a shout!

Hey there! I’m looking for pointers on how to launch an online business from scratch. This business would be used to promote other people/businesses/events.

If you have any kind of experience in the fields of promotion and/or running or knowing how to run an online business, I’d greatly appreciate any kind of information you may have.

Right now it would be a potential source of extra revenue. I’m not looking to start something that I would dedicate all of my time to, just something very grassroots at this point.

You’re looking at becoming an "Affiliate". There are a lot of companies out there that offer this. Just search for "affiliate opportunities" and you should come up with quite a few opportunities, just be careful and read the fine print.
