I’m researching jobs for my enrichment class project and I’m looking in the business field. What would the available jobs be with a degree in business marketing?

Ok, so you can be a Marketing Manager or Associate, PR Associate, Market Research Director, Brand Manager, or an associate at an Advertising firm . You can go into sales, as well — if you like it, of course.

I’d like to get loans/grants for starting a small business. Where can I get started? What were some of your personal experiences with this process?

You stand a greater chance of getting a government-guaranteed loan through the Small Business Administration http://www.sba.gov/financing than a government grant. Read the SBA Financing page to learn about criteria needed for borrowing

It is hard to find grants to start a business. Unlike the myths that some perpetuate, federal government and even private foundations hardly give grant money for a for-profit business. And yes, grants mean PAPERWORK – lots and lots of it, that is why a cottage industry of grant writers was born.

Nonetheless, you can go to the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) http://www.cfda.gov and Grants.gov http://www.grants.gov – these are two sites created by the federal government to provide transparency and information on grants. Browse through the listings and see if you can find any grant that would support a for-profit venture.

Even if you buy books on "how to get grants" or list that supposedly has information on grants — all of them are mere rehash of what CFDA has, albeit packaged differently. But still the info is the same – hardly any grants for starting a for profit business.

Even SBA does NOT give out grants. From the SBA website http://www.sba.gov/expanding/grants.html

"The U.S. Small Business Administration does not offer grants to start or expand small businesses, although it does offer a wide variety of loan programs. (See http://www.sba.gov/financing for more information) While SBA does offer some grant programs, these are generally designed to expand and enhance organizations that provide small business management, technical, or financial assistance. These grants generally support non-profit organizations, intermediary lending institutions, and state and local governments."

Here is a listing of federal grants for small businesses. See if there is any available for individuals for starting a business — THERE’S NONE.

Most of the federal grants are given to specific target groups with specific requirements (e.g. minority business owners involved in transportation related contracts emanating from DOT – Grant#20.905 Disadvantaged Business Enterprises Short Term Lending Program

Grants are also often given to non profit groups or organizations involved in training or other similar activities (grant 59.043 Women’s Business Ownership Assistance that are given to those who will create women’s business center that will train women entrepreneurs

I understand that you need to contact your attorny generals office to have a going out of business sale is there any way to find all of the businesses in my area that are having a going out of business sale?

It’s just not something most of them like to advertise lol, you can try teh att’y general route but I’m not so sure how much fruit that will bear.

But you might check the newspaper to see where and what types of auctions are in your area, this is one way businesses attempt to recover some of what is lost.

I doubt seriously you’ll get into (or want to get into) everything, likely it will take time but also likely you’ll eventually discover your little corner, or niche, the stuff you’ll find you repeatedly are succesful with, that will likely become your specialty and then you stick with that and leave the rest alone.

How can I work from home using my computer?
I am currently unemployed. I always come across ads on craigslist, and careerbuilder, as well as other sites for work at home jobs. I know that the envelope stuffing gig is a scam but what about the clerical work, and data entry jobs. If anyone knows of any legitimate jobs where I can work from home, without paying astronomicals fees to start…Please respond.

Real online data entry jobs are available. But you need to be careful. Most of the company’s income come from member sign up fee not from actual work. So be careful about paid signup.
